Perinatal platform

01 August 2023

Researchers at the University of Nottingham and Oxford, along with several other universities across the UK, have been awarded funding to develop a platform trial in perinatal medicine, focussing on women at risk of preterm birth and babies born preterm. The work is being led by Professor Ed Juszczak, University of Nottingham, and Dr Pollyanna Hardy, University of Oxford. The research team includes obstetricians, midwives, neonatologists, parents and methodologists from across the UK. The perinatal platform trial is unique and hasn't been done before in perinatal medicine in the UK - using the platform trial methodology, the team should be able to answer multiple important research questions, more quickly and efficiently than 'traditional' clinical trials. But, platform trials are complex to design, set-up and run. To get this right, wide input is needed from healthcare professionals, pregnant women and parents. The team are applying for funding to conduct the platform trial later this year, and are holding online discussion groups before then, in order for healthcare professionals to give their input. The next online discussion groups are being held on 13 September, 08.30-09:30; 13 September, 12:30-1:30 and 15 September, 12:30-1:30. If you are interested in finding out more about the perinatal platform trial and keen to share your views, please contact ctu@nottingham.ac.uk to register and you will sent an invite to a MS Teams meeting.
